Can you Smell it? Propane has a foul odor that has been compared to garbage, sewage, a skunk’s spray, or a dead animal. Ethyl Mercaptan is the additive used in Propane, and other odorless gases, to give a warning odor. You may smell this if you tank is low, during or shortly following a propane delivery, or if you have a leak.
