Spring is here and with Spring brings our much-anticipated Grilling Season. There is nothing like the first BBQ of the season. Here is a helpful list to guide you and get your grill ready.
- Thorough Cleaning:
• Remove grates, drip tray(s), and other removable parts: Scrub them with a grill brush and warm, soapy water.
• Clean the interior: Use a scraper or brush to remove any built-up grease and debris from the grill’s interior.
• Wash the exterior: Wipe down the outside of the grill with warm, soapy water. - Safety Checks:
• Inspect hoses and connections: Check for cracks, leaks, or damage to the hoses and connections.
• Leak test: Use soapy water to test for leaks at all connections.
• Check ignition parts: Ensure the igniter is working properly and that there’s no grease buildup.
• Check for spiders, rodents, and insects: Remove any nests or debris that may have accumulated inside the grill.
• Check the propane tank: Ensure the tank is full and connected securely. - Seasoning (Optional, but recommended):
• Apply a light coat of oil: Seasoning your grill, especially if it’s a cast iron grill, can help prevent rust and create a non-stick surface.
• High heat oil: Use a high-heat oil like vegetable or canola oil.
• Apply evenly: Use a spray bottle or a rag to apply the oil evenly to the grates.
• Heat the grill: Turn on the grill to a high heat for 30-40 minutes to bake in the oil. - Test Run:
• Before grilling: Do a test run to ensure everything is working properly.
• Check for leaks: During the test run, check for any leaks or issues.
